Direct Vent Fireplace Maintenance

There are so many advantages to a direct vent fireplace, why not add one more. Maintenance? What maintenance? There is really not a whole lot that you have to do to keep your direct vent fireplace in working condition. It is more like cleaning than maintenance.

After the initial 10-20 hours of burning the fireplace you should do a thorough cleaning of the glass panel. After that you will periodically need to clean the glass, depending on how much you burn the unit will depend on how often you need to clean it. The glass panel does get extremely hot, make sure it is cool before removing it or attempting to clean it. Clean the glass with a non-abrasive cleaning solution.

Once or Twice annually you should vacuum the rest of the fireplace out. You should vacuum the burner compartment, logs and surrounding areas.

Do a visual check of the pilot assembly and flame pattern to make sure it is still correct, if either are not working properly you should have the unit serviced.

The venting should be inspected to make sure the piping is intact and there are no obstructions interfering with the airflow or damage to the venting system.

We do recommend that you have a service company do annual inspections of the fireplace, just to make sure it is clean and in working condition. Each manufacturer has specific cleaning and maintenance procedures, make sure you read your owner’s manual for detailed instructions.
