Direct Vent Fireplace Inserts

If so you should consider installing a direct vent fireplace insert. You can experience all of the benefits of gas burning fireplace without having to tear out your existing fireplace. Direct vent inserts simply slid into your existing fireplace, giving your room a new look and giving you less that go along with wood burning units.
Direct vent fireplace inserts works just as a standard direct vent fireplace would and has a lot of the same options. No longer will you have a wide open hole in the front of your fireplace that sucks heated air from your room. A direct vent fireplace insert has a sealed glass panel on the front of it which will prevent the heat loss that you are used to. The glass panel is fixed and must be in place for the unit to operate. With the closed combustion system you can achieve efficiencies up to 83%.
Direct vent fireplace inserts run off of natural or propane gas. If you do not have a natural gas supply run to your home you could have a propane tank installed and plumbed to your fireplace insert. If you decide on propane gas, most manufacturers require at least a 100 lb. propane tank to be installed. Read the owner’s manual for specific pressure and size requirements.
As far as the venting goes, your existing fireplace’s chimney must be in good working condition before installing an insert. Have your chimney inspected to make sure it is suitable for installing the unit. Direct vent fireplace inserts use a collinear venting system to vent the unit. There are 2 separate pipes which run inside your existing chimney. One pipe is used to draw fresh combustion air in from outside, where the second pipe is used for the fireplace exhaust.
Benefits of a Direct Vent Fireplace Insert:
- No more wood!!
