Burner Type

G45 - The G45 is an advanced burner system that creates dancing flames, maximum glowing effects and provides radiant heat into the room.  The G45 burner is a good choice for fireplaces that can accommodate logs wider than 30" as the G45 is available in sizes up to 60" wide.

G46 - The G46 is a patented Ribbon Burner Technology System that features a control valve with a built-in regulator and piezo ignition system.  The G46's tapered shape allows the safety pilot to be attached to the angled side of the burner which reduces the required clearance and allows for the use of a larger set of logs in the fireplace.

Comparison

The G45 burner generally has a higher BTU input because of its longer rectangular shape.  However, the G46 has a better efficiency rating because it has a raised burner.  This raised burner allows the valve for the G46 to be underneath the unit, whereas the G45's valve has to go on the side of the unit which increases the space needed to fit in your fireplace.  The G45 is available in stainless steel and/or see-thru.  The trapezoidal shape of the G46 Burner does not allow for stainless steel or see-thru but does create a nicer bed of glowing embers as well as an ample amount of flame coming up around the logs.

ANSI Certified

ANSI is the American National Standards Institute.  They empower their members and constituents to strengthen the U.S. marketplace position in the global economy while helping to assure the safety and health of consumers and the protection of the environment.  Many states require ANSI approval.  If a unit is ANSI certified, it has been tested in a facility to be in compliance with national standards.  If your ANSI certified unit gets too hot or too cold, or if there is too much or too little gas going to the unit, the unit will shut itself off automatically.  All ANSI certified units share this safety feature.

Ignition Type

Basic On/Off Remote

This Remote requires that your pilot stays on at all times (a standing pilot).  It will turn the flames for your log set on or off. You can manually adjust the height of the flames at the unit.

Electronic On/Off Remote

This remote does not require that your pilot stays on at all times.  Because it has electronic ignition, it will turn your pilot on and off.  Ideal for propane gas log sets, as it ensures you only use gas when you need it.

Manual Safety Pilot

There is no remote here!  This unit has a standing pilot.  The flames needs to be manually turned on and off.  You can adjust the height of the flames at the unit.

Match Light

This unit has no standing pilot and must be lit manually.  Match lit units are not ANSI certified and must be purchased in natural gas only!

Variable Flame Remote

This remote is the same as the Basic On/Off remote with the added bonus of being able to vary your flame height from the remote as well!
